Welcome to the life of a 17 year old girl. (yikes). I should probably start with an introduction so here’s a poor attempt at that. I’m Dorothy! I’m 17 (as previously mentioned) and I’m a junior in high school (EXTRA yikes). Funny enough, I do Virtual School. That’s just teams meeting classes and a lot more free time. I’ve done it since the second half of freshman year. Mostly because some kids can be really mean. BUT that is NOT what the focus of this is. I have a lot more free time doing virtual, and more because this semester is full of fluff classes. Which has left a lot of room to be bored. Frankly, too much time to be bored. But I’m only bored if I chose to be so I figure trying new things - like a blog - is a good start.
So how’s that as an introduction??
Now to the actual matter at hand. I did a college tour of Maryville this morning!!! I’ve recently been looking into dual-enrollement for next semester because as much as I love virtual and hate public high school, I do actually need to be a person in the world! Scary, I know. But through that path of looking into dual enrollment I also got insanely invested in looking at Maryville. It is everything. I’m super extroverted but I tend to shut down when there’s TOO much going on yk? Maryville looked like an amazing fit, so I scheduled a tour. Kind of on a whim, but let’s not focus on that part. So I prepped in all the fancy girly ways I tend to do and found the cutest fit possible for today. In short, it was it. “It” being “the one” also being the college I am 100% determined to go to. I want to study early elementary education (k-5) and minor in english, literature, or maybe music. But the main focus is becoming a teacher. The tour guide was so wonderful, a total delight to be around and every building we walked into hammered the nail in that Maryville IS going to be my college. So now I’m insanely excited and kind of chomping at the bit to graduate. Boo hiss being only a junior. But in more detail, the campus is STUNNING. It’s a full walking campus and you can get everywhere in under 10 minutes. You can also walk into the charming little downtown area in like 15 which I love. The buildings are all old and historic and have names that end with the word “hall”. The dorms are small and have dingy tile floors and I love them. I can’t wait to be able to cram all my stuff into an annoying small space and stick posters and pictures on every inch of the wall. I’m still up in the air about a roommate. If I can snag one of my friends to come room with me that would be great, but otherwise I think I’d prefer a single. I totally get the appeal of meeting a new room mate and it could be great but I would hate to be stuck with someone that doesn’t fit my personality too? I’m also severely determined to bring Biscuit with me to my dorm. Is that probably insane? Yes. Do I really want to make it happen anyways??? Also, yes. I’m sure it’s context clues but Biscuit is my dog. He’s a rat and I love him. Anyways, the point is that Maryville was everything I wanted and more. It felt like everyone was on level ground, no judgement or hierarchy which is fantastic coming from high school FULL of that BS. It exceeded my expectations in every possible way and I am now on a shopping/pinterest board rampage for dorm ideas. If you have inspo LMK. That’s all for now I think.
